In an attempt to not slaughter the endgame with one beyond overleveled character, I attempted to turn Exp gain off, but no matter what I try, I always get XP. Is there something I need to do?

XP still displays after battle even with it turned off — did you check your XP on the status screen before and after combat to confirm you actually received any?

Yep, didn't notice the numbers not rising in the menu.
