What are your planned features since 1.9 is one step closer (yeah I am hoping that 1.9 is the last tune-up patch before 2.0)? Any optional bosses (super bosses I hope)? QoL changes? Anything?
Plans for 2.0

The only change I've publicly stated is an intention to maker the Floating Continent a multiple-party dungeon.
That sounds interesting. And btw do you have a copy of the nATB patch? Dunno if mine is outdated or not.
nATB was introduced into BNW proper some time ago.
Whoops, guess mine was a bad patch, re-patched it but haven't tested it.
Strange...the nATB doesn't work, I am patching from a clean unheadered rom. Don't know what's wrong >_>
Tried on one more rom that I just downloaded now...the nATB doesn't work. ![]()
Oh wow.... multi-party Floating Continent sounds like the most awesome thing ever.....
That's a great place to bring it back too, as it hasn't been used in quite awhile. Maybe put the airship at the start?
Some sort of end-game optional super dungeon is something I'd love to see in BNW, to test players' abilities to properly build their characters.
Multi-party floating continent would be a great change too.

Ie; a not terrible version of Dragon Den/Soul Shrine, maybe?

Never played the advanced version so...was it that bad? Really?
We do not speak of the Advance version.
So its absolutely bull? Well no worries. But will it be possible to get a gauntlet-like dungeon where you get to fight some of the game's bosses, on steroids?
That's essentially what those dungeons were. The problem is thats more or less ALL they were; they were poorly put together afterthoughts that really took away more then they added, with really dumb gimmics added to each dragon to make it 'harder'.
I will maintain that, while the Dragon's Den was a shitty dungeon, the Soul Shrine, for all it's flimsy pretext, was a fun boss rush that brought something unique.
I have it on record that BTB admits sequential fights are the most interesting fights in the game. So...
staff pls put sole shrien in

Well like I said never played it.

Would like to see that BNW style.
Yea so I had an entire post ready and copied it too and now it magically disappeared into cyber space fun times.
I have an idea for BnW 2.0 that is greatly inspired by Breath of Fire 2 involving NPCs offering the player a ONE time PERMANENT enhancement or spell. I find this idea intriguing because it encourages more diversification of character builds and forces the player to make a strategic decision on who to give the buff to. Here are some examples of possible NPC buffs.
Lola, the lonely woman Cyan was sending flowers and letters to. She could thank Cyan for his attention by offering ONE character a Hp+200/Stam+6 boost. Almost everyone would benefit from the boost, it might especially be helpful for Strago to fuel his White Wind or to make Gau/Shadow tankier since they lack alternative methods of boosting HP.
Gungho, Strago's friend who was injured by Hidon. He could offer ONE character a Mp+100/Mag+6 boost which would especially benefit magic users who lack an MP boosting esper such as Locke or Mog or even a Vigor based Terra/Celes for MP crits and Holy/Flare procs. The player can decide where the boost would fit their play style best.
Gau's Father, As a thank you for letting him know his son is alive after the cute sequence could offer ONE character a Vigor+5/Speed+5 boost which would could be used to further buff a physical dps character or give more dps to a tank such as a Terrato Sabin or Unicorn Terra.
Rachel, Before departing from her brief resurrection can offer ONE character the Life 2 spell which allows the player to have 3 characters (Terra and Locke being the other 2) who can revive someone to full HP and would benefit pretty much anyone since it is not tied to any stat. A tanky Sabin or Cyan build may benefit most from access to this spell since they are likely to not be KOed and have opportunity to utilize it.
The Queen Statue, Which in this mod is basically just "there" since Raiden is no longer an Esper could offer ONE character a choice of ONE of the level 2 elemental spells: Ice 2, Fire 2 OR Bolt 2. These spells could be used to round out someone's elemental coverage, such as giving Locke Ice 2, or providing a character with few elemental attack options like Setzer or Edgar a new magic attack option.
Other possible NPCs who could offer bonus are Duncan and Owzer, but I think I got the idea across. I find this very intriguing because there are a lot of different rationales for giving these boosts to different characters so it can cater to any playstyle.

Yes this does sound interesting. It is like a follow-up to the esper innate bonuses. Only this is powered by NPC's. Let's wait and see for BTB's reply on this though.
Oh btw, Gungho is Jenkins right?

PERHAPS?! He may have different names in different versions of the game
Gungho is Leeroy (yes, THAT Leeroy) in BNW.
Those bonuses all sound nice, but ultimately they seem like a flavor thing that wouldn't be worth the PITA they would be to implement. Something like the esper equip bonuses is different because, one, they already functioned as equipment and thus weren't that difficult to implement, but addressed an existing flaw in the system where there was no functional difference between what esper was equipped outside of summon effect. Thus, even though the effects are minor, they have a major impact on gameplay; the same can't be said for what's being proposed here.

I do think they would have a major effect on gameplay particularly the spell learning ones but I agree it might be a PITA for sure.
Also with Demi/Quarter, any chance of making their fractional damage based off of stamina something like 25% + (Stam /128) similar to your stamina counter attack formula?
Fractional damage already considers stamina for defense.

oic just not for offense then? Stamina for monsters and Bosses never really occurred to me
Monsters and bosses also have stamina, yes
IMO BNW punishes slow teams harshly especially in WOR. I was using Terra, Strago, Cyan and Relm in my current run and they get rekt pretty much all the time. Is there any way to not suck when you're as slow as a snail?
You need to use your only fast character to neutralize your opponents as much as possible. Relm knows Stop now, which should help.
As to multi-party floating continent, storyline would need to be amended somewhat. I forget if any justification is given to why only 3 members fight the IAF, but obviously this is done to allow Shadow to join the party upon reaching the FC.
Would the storyline say the first group is being sent in to clear the path, then the 2nd drop team will join after? Then you could have the IAF group be 4 members (making those battles easier, but could strengthen the enemies) and the 2nd drop team could be 3 members and they encounter Shadow.
We already have a plan for how it would work, story-wise. We've not discussed any of the specifics outside of the need-to-know circle.

Cool didn't know that, is it a Esper learnable spell? Don't have the printme right now.
It's learnable from Zoneseek in 1.9, so she won't have it if you're playing 1.8.6.
Awww too bad...so who else would make a slow team work? Edgar perhaps? Or just basically leave room for a super fast damage dealer/support?
Strago himself can run crowd control even though he's slow; just focus more on attacks like Bad Breath instead of using him as a nuker.
Ohh right, Bad Breath is learnable, forgot about that. Thanks for the tip! ![]()
I like the multi-party floating continent and multi-party optional endgame content ideas.
ROM expansion, anyone?
ROM expansion is likely the direction this mod is going, but it's not to be taken lightly. Expanded space means expanded ideas, and that really risks mission creep, turning the mod from a tweak to existing structures to a full blown expansion pack, modern gaming DLC in style. Not to say it won't happen, but it's a bit of a Pandora's box when we get there.
Version 2.0 will almost certainly necessitate expanding the ROM, but as artemi said, we need to be careful not to go overboard with all that extra space.
Multi-party floating contenent: I'd like at least the option to have magitek here for one more opportunity since the base game so rarely used it and I liked it.

Final Fantasy T edition already went the "DLC" route, granted none of us english speakers can really play it since it hasn't been translated. And while I do think it's a good romhack, it definitely goes for quantity over quality at times.

Huh? Really? Didn't know that. Wait you are talking about FFT right?

T-Edition is a Japanese hack of FF6. Someone's working on an English translation atm, but it's FF6, not FFT
Ah, I have to see this, gonna check youtube or some shit.
EDIT: Interesting and cool, is it just me or does the Japanese version of the game looks cleaner than the US version?

First place I know of that'd have T-Edition playthroughs is Kain's channel:

I'd check out Poemato's stream of T-edition. He actually live translates all the text, and they are really cozy streamers. It's kind of outdated at this point now, but they said they are going to stream it again, and are working on a translation as well.
So it's "Tsushiy-Edition"? Must be a username. Thanks for linking to Mato's YT channel; I'd love to see a re-stream.
Btw, can we talk about the post office in Mobliz? I'm actually a mailman IRL and it's pretty jarring that a letter would have the same postage as a book, a record and a (somehow free) Tonic! Usually it's weight-based, then bulk-based. The actual pricing isn't my job, but I know they would at least be treated and handled differently.

I'm pretty sure that if anything's done to the quest they're just gonna shorten it.
Also, Sabin's clearly using Flat Rate Shipping because he's not very smart when it comes to the mail.

It is indeed the guy's username. He was around FF6Hacking for a bit a couple of years ago asking questions, presumably while he was working on his hack.

You would think Lola would be confused, what with her BF shipping her a letter inside an empty box, and then later changing accents.
Btw, apparently poutine isn't Canadian.
You know how you get blue a red save points, I was thinking it would be handy to have green save points in certain dungeons where you could switch party members. This would be very helpful in Kefka's Tower. Instead of warping or walking out. I took 3 party's into Kefka's tower and after a while decided one party wasn't strong enough and could use a reshuffle.
What's your thoughts on this?

Had another idea, i might get laughed out of the topic for this one though.
i am missing 3 rages, 2 lores, and the Water Rondo dance, as they are missable after the WoB.
In the readme it says something like there is no missable items in the game, wouldn't this be great if it extended to nothing being missable?
remember in FFVIII when you could return the world before time compression? there is restrictions such as you cant enter towns.
Maybe Cid builds a time machine in the time between leaving the isolated island and getting the pendant.
Maybe not Cid cos if you don't save him the whole thing becomes missable.
if you could got back in time to the WoB there wouldnt really be anything to do except roam the over-world and dungeons and to fight enemies.
i agree its a dumb idea and could be hard to implement anyway.
its still good to get ideas going about how to make nothing in the game missable.

...or BTB and Synchysi could add the "Aquatic Caves" patch to make the WoR underground caves before the ancient castle ruins "Aquatic", and have some of the WoB enemies show up in a few spots in the WoR. Far less work than any of what you're talking about. In fact I'm pretty sure that trying to 'go back' to previous WoB town/world maps would seriously mess things up due to how the game flags events.
Thais true. i never realised there was a more simple plan being considered. Cid building a time machine is completely mental even by Final Fantasy standards.
(Edit) it took him an entire year to build a simple wooden raft.
Fwiw there are some overworld places in the WoR that do have WoB rage formations. Check some of the isolated islands.
8 minutes ago, Mishrak said:Fwiw there are some overworld places in the WoR that do have WoB rage formations. Check some of the isolated islands.
Thanks, i had a look on Gamer Corner Guides for vanilla locations but i have missed the 3 enemies i need.
Are you referring to a BNW change?
There's been discussion in the discord before about a zone being converted to a water based zone for Water Rondo.
A couple of times the idea of somehow 'unlocking' all the WoB formations on the Veldt when you go to the WoR was tossed around.
I don't think they're going to make something as drastic as making the WoB accessible again though.
What Lores are you missing? I was under the impression that they weren't actually missable.
29 minutes ago, Nowea said:What Lores are you missing? I was under the impression that they weren't actually missable.
I think its just Blaze. just seen that Powerslave teaches it. it doesn't matter anyway, im at the top of Kefka's Tower fighting the triads. i will grab everything on my next play-though.
Is the aquatic caves patch BNW compatible? Also, there was a better looking reflection patch I saved from the ID forums, anyone try that patch for a while? Thinking I'll do those two plus that RNG and PUB/Silence patches and then dive in. Just hoping there aren't any conflicts.

The pub and silence patches are tested and compatable. So too are a lot of the sprite alteration patches if that's your thing.
The aquatic caves patch should be compatable as well (as it uses one of the unused battle maps, i.e. forests, deserts, caves, cliffs, cities, etc.), changes the flag for it to a "Water" location so Mog can learn the Water Dance, and then makes one area of the game use that specific map for battles that take place there.

Do those grenades appear on The Veldt in the WoR?

Sadly no, but I was just curious how you managed to go through the entire housefire scenario without a single Grenade throwing a blaze at you (since Strago is in the party at the time that happens).
That said, this does sound like something that should be tweaked, as you just showed that it is somehow possible to miss that lore there.![]()

i dodged a few, the ones i did fight i must have killed quickly before they could use Blaze.
Keep in mind if Gau can use the ability in a rage (eg blaze / vaporite) and Strago observes it, he’ll learn it.

Does Blaze, or any other attack in that segment, have a chance of setting the Blind status? That'd do it.

After double-checking, it does set Blind. And ShadowMoses, Blind has not only been fixed so that it actually negatively does something (unlike the vanilla game), it also prevents Strago from learning Lores. So if you want Blinded characters to be able to physically attack and not miss, or have Strago learn lores, you need to remove the Blind status.
Long time player, first time poster here.
I just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents about 2.0.
I think it'd be good if there were alternate costumes in the game, kind of like in T Edition but without going as overboard.
I'd also like it if there was something like Township from BoF2, like you could rebuild Mobliz in WoR and recruit people to live there, and they'd open up unique shops or give you stat boosts.
I think we should wait until the ROM expansion even happens and then we get an idea of how much space we have to make our wild dreams true from BTB and Synchysi
I just had a crazy idea for Gau. That maybe he could learn a rage from the bears in mt zozo or the hobo's in zozo that gives him the steal ability.
It may be redundant because shadow and setzer can equip the switchblade, but I think it would still be cool.
