I can't apologize enough for the wait...nor the lack of my presence here. But rest assured that this project has been on my mind for the past 3 months or so.

The long awaited version 9 is ready.
I'm sure you know the basics by now.. but just in case you don't....
-This is NOT COMPATIBLE with any other version of this game. If you try to load a save file using any other version, it WILL glitch up like crazy, so DON'T do it.
-If Toad says anything funny at the beginning, it means you patched the game with a version that not compatble with this one. The chances of this happening is slim, but it does happen.
-The recommend program to play this is SNES 9x, but SNES Classic is also supported.  Do NOT use ZSNES.

Version 9 is a whole new ball game from version 8. I'd tell you the changes, but what fun will that be? This is a preliminary Normal mode. Hard mode will be released a little later after some reviews and such...and if anything needs to be fixed.

If you happen to find any problems in the game, post them in the bug thread. Post videos/pictures here if needed. It's always possible something was missed.

Thank you so much. I know you said this is the final release but I hope you will give us a version 10 in 18 months. Take 6 months off and enjoy life. Enjoy the nfl season (if you enjoy american football). 

If you understood the hell we went through to make this, you'll also understand why this is the very last version. Unless some completly new feature is created, this is it. But trust me..there really isn't much more we can do here...

I could not get past the first battle with the magikoopa with rosalina so I skipped the first fight.

Even if I have to wait 5 years for a version 10 I hope one will be made. I still hold to my offer if i ever win the powerball You are getting a portion. The rest I will spend trying to bribe lindsey pelas and tessa fowler lol. 

Funny thing was... I started checking on a daily basis as of like, within the last week as I just... had a feeling this was gonna be released soon.

 

Glad to see it's finally happened though and thank you Darkkefka, Doomsday and Yakibomb for all the hard work that was put into this! Been waiting since... well, since I remember seeing talk about the old beta that... is supposed to be completely different from now hahaha (like around March/April last year when I discovered this hack... again lol)

 

But been pretty patient with the release of this due to one reason or another myself (and... not sure if I should try loading this on my hacked 3DS like I did with version 8 or waiting until my GPD WIN 2 comes in on Wednesday to try it on that hahaha)

 

Anyways! This is pretty exciting news and again, a BIG thank you to everyone that was involved in making this happen! :>

Small but important thing, like important as in this should be mentioned in the OP and probably also included as part of a readme of some kind.
The patch is for an Unheadered Rom, if you try and patch it on a Headered Rom you're probably just going to get a black screen on start-up.

Easy way I check for this is just using a tool called TUSH (The Utility for SNES Headers) which lets you easily just select a Rom file and it will tell you if it's Headered or not and then lets you add or remove a Header as needed. (In this case you would be looking for Unheadered as I already mentioned, so if it says it has a Header just remove it and you should be good to go.)

sadly i am having it lock up when I use snowy. I got my rom off the net I forgot the website. Been using in the past. What rom should I be using with this game? Anyone else having lock ups using snowy? I am using snes9x 1.53

I just had a quick question, were the hidden chests removed? In mushroom way when you first enter and near the pipe with one of the Pokemon, the usual spots that have them I couldn't find them there.

No, there's actually one more chest than in v8.

Hm I know I'm checking the right spot, were they moved or maybe it's an issue with the ROM patching? Everything else is working fine though.

 

so yeah everytime I try snowy it locks up. https://volafile.org/r/nh21u94g I guess I will try beating the mushroom kingdom boss without snowy but it seems less than optimal. Oh well.

Many hidden chests have been moved to keep things fresh for returning players.

Ok, so I have no idea what the deal is with Snowy. I can assure you this wasn't the case for any of the testers. I wonder if this has anything to do with different patchings. Not everybody is having this problem.

I don't know. The one I used was made a long time ago. Back in the version 8 days, I included that along to with IPS to avoid this problem. However it seems that's illegal to do. We cannot even give links to any of the vanilla game. But that might not even be the case. For whatever reason, for some people..it just doesn't patch correctly. On discord, they said something about headers shifting a single byte. I don't know what that means..but I do know that a single byte can mess up the whole game.

I can't believe the public release is finally here, i've been waiting for these big changes for a long time and i am happy to finally play it. Thank you so much guys.

So, I just got the chance to get on this awesome game and I have a couple of questions regarding the new stuff:

1. Is Jump back to how it was in vanilla or is there an exact timing to jump multiple times?
2. When the Bandit threw me his knife, the digits that displayed my damage were flashing blue and I got a pink thing on my character's icon/hp bar. What does that status mean?

Until you acquire better jumping equipment, your jump will be limited :ragequit:

The status is called "full break", and I'll let you determine what it means.

So I went and got a new super mario rpg rom that I had on my harddrive in a zip file from 1999 and patched it and now snowy works fine. My theory is that the other rom I was using was patched with v8 and trying the same rom to patch it with v9 causes issues if you already patched it with version 8. Perhaps I am mistaken but this is my theory. Now snowy works with zero issues.

I'm glad to hear that fixed your issue!

It would be interesting to see the kind of rom that came out of applying the v9 patch to v8...

The other rom was the same rom I was using but it was already patched with v8. My theory is I had to go get a fresh rom that was never patched and patch that with version 9. I will see if I have any other issues as I play this some more tomorrow but have work all day saturday and football is all day Sunday.  I wish this verison 9 could have come out back in june over the dog days of summer lol. But I am greatful it has finally seen the light of day for the masses.

I get that but you said pretend to release the hard mode lol

We'll be pretending to release hard mode in our heart every tuesday for the next month.

The actual release won't be until after DK has had a chance to see and plan for what people do in the content mode.

At least, the wait is over!

I already know this is going to be a blast. Packed with extra hard difficulty.

How do you defend against Shocker? Boywer is killing one of my characters every single round with it and I haven't had a successful defense against it yet. 

Edit: Won on my 3rd try.... managed to block Shocker 2 times in total. X_x

Also, I don't know if I'm messing up the timing on Geno's star gun or if he just only can do ~200 damage unarmed.

Shocker's block timing is just before the flash.

Timing on genos's gun is normal for the first one. then just before the explosion sound for the second one. Maybe one day I'll make a video showing all of the timings...

Out of all of the one target attacks, the only ones i never undestood their block timing are Poison and White Breath. Somehow i can easily block Dark Breath, but the other ones seem to have different block timing than Dark one

So peach never learns ultima? My theory is I have to go win the ice cave battle vs peach boss to win ultima. Also I am at level 100 with everyone and just defeated bowsers keep. I was able to beat the 3 shy guys. I see the random boss battles are not as plentiful as before. Are all the mails out of this game? Or have they all been moved away?  I also have the theory I must defeat smithy for the final fantasy bosses to then become eligible battles. We shall see if I am right on that.

Awww, yeah! It's go time! As I said I'd do, time to inject v9 on my SNES Classic. But, before I do, is there anything I need to be aware of before doing so, glitches-wise?

If you want to play on SNES Classic, you'd better wait for the final upload.  This one has some nasty bugs on SNES Classic due to lack of testing...

(the final upload should be in a week or two)

Alright, looks like I'll be giving it a go on my N3DS via SNES9X, the standalone emulator made by bubbles2k16. I remember that v8 ran flawlessly on it with 60 FPS, only skipping 1 frame when saving. I never beat v8, on my old N3DS, the buttons stopped working. So, new N3DS, new SMRPG:A playthrough.

 

EDIT: I misplaced the screwdriver, so that is on hold. Instead, I used my backup backup plan. I am playing on the PC. SNES9X 1.56, and just recruited Mallow, and gave him the Ice Ring.

I like the different armor you win for defeating certain hidden monsters. Sadly most of them are pretty meh. I tried the forest girl and got destroyed wearing 3 ribbons and 3 demon mails. I like the fact you have to beat smithy first before being able to go for these hidden monsters. I wish there was a heads up as I spent 5 or 10 min trying to get a enemy to fight me in the sea with no luck. Now I know why.

A heads up for hidden encounters? There's an anti guy in rose way that gives you the siren which alerts you when you're in a room with hidden encounters.

You have to go defeat smithy and once you do you willgo to the usual places like in version 8 of this mod. 

So regarding a previous mechanic from v8...

Do you get Celebi the same way like in v8? Gaz doesn't seem to tell me anything related to Celebi in this version. However Frogfucious does tell you that there's a creature in the forest and to be careful from the monsters. He's talking about Celebi I'm assuming.

The method is no longer extremely arbitrary and obtuse.  The chance of encounter is now the same as Latias.

Oh yeah, I never understood how the Latios/Latias encounter chance worked. I just happen to fight hidden monsters in Land's End or Rose Way until they would eventually pop up. So, what is the chance of encountering Celebi is then?

EDIT: I just found and captured both Latias and Latios in the Forest Maze. So, can Latias and Latios appear in any hidden monster encounter? I never knew that. Does this apply to Celebi as well or is he only in the Forest Maze?

EDIT2: Do I need to do something else in order to make Celebi start appearing? I've been trying to get it to appear for a while now but still no luck. I'm I just having bad RNG?

Speaking of Frogfucious, I know he's giving me a hint about Ultima weapon in Kero Sewers and he's right, I'm having a hard time reaching him since boo jumping isn't working. Not to spoil it but do you know how to get up there?

There's a bug where enemies lose their collision, I'm guessing that's what happening.

You still get to Ultima Weapon the same way as in version 8.

Okay yeah for some reason when I visited Kero Sewers the first time in the main story, I was able to get up there normally. I'll try it again now before I go to some other bosses.

If anyone can figure out how to trigger the bug where you can't jump on enemies after running from them, that'd be great...

I was able to get up there this time, I have no idea what triggers it however. Once I restarted my game it worked perfectly. One thing to note is that Ive been able to jump on other enemies after running the issue only happens here in Kero Sewers for me.

La versión 9 es un juego de pelota completamente nuevo de la versión 8. Te diría los cambios, pero ¿qué divertido será? Este es el modo de contenido (fácil). El modo difícil se lanzará un poco más tarde después de algunas revisiones y tal ... y si algo necesita ser arreglado.

Si encuentra algún problema en el juego, publíquelo en el hilo del error. Publique videos / fotos aquí si es necesario. Siempre es posible que algo se haya perdido.

Find a rom of the original super mario rpg for snes, then download an ips patcher (lunar ips is my recommended program to use) to patch the v9 mod to the rom.

I just want to thank everyone who has worked on this hack. The sheer amount of content is absurd, and V9 fixes so many problems and makes the whole thing so much more enjoyable.

That said, any idea when hard mode might be coming out? I think I'm pretty much done here... :P

There were more bugs introduced in version 9 than fixed from version 8.

Hard mode will come out once everything with content and normal mode is fixed.

No, but disappearing coins, not being able to jump while moving immediately after beating Dawn or May, easy FF Boss Rush (that's not an issue though)

That first one is a nasty issue I admit, but the other two are trivial.

At least in v9 you can't be stuck with one hidden chest remaining...

hello~! I played SMRPG:A v.8 a couple years ago....i think i downloaded it off of Insane Difficulty...Anyway, I decided to go looking into the game again and saw V9 here. I just downloaded the content mode version i believe, but i;m wondering what the difference is between Content Mode and the regular v9?

 

P.S. was the hidden chest in Mushroom Kingdom (above the doorway heading to the Chancellor's room) removed?

i have a question the version 9 will have a hard mode or no ? or the normal will be the final dificulty level on V9

Content mode is a lot easier than normal mode. I strongly recommend playing through normal mode.

And yes, that chest in the Mushroom Kingdom was indeed moved.

It will have a hard mode, DK is currently working on it, I believe. Just be patient and eventually we get it.

it DOES seem a bit easy, but is there a difference between what you can find and do in the two modes?

 

And yeah, i hopped on the Toad standing guard on the side hallway and found a chest. :P

There is nothing different about the content in the 2 versions, except for a few pieces of OP equipment that is limited/nerfed in normal mode.

thank you for answering. i'mma give content mode a playthrough just to get back into things and then i may go for normal mode. :)

So was the lvl cap put back to 30? I hit 30 in Rose Forest and there's no longer level up or "new technique learned at lvl xx" info. Is it just that I'm essentially playing 'easy mode' with the Content Version?

So was the lvl cap put back to 30? I hit 30 in Rose Forest and there's no longer level up or "new technique learned at lvl xx" info. Is it just that I'm essentially playing 'easy mode' with the Content Version?

No it's 100, there's a new way to get some of those late game abilities now. Some of which are unavailable until you beat smithy.

Yes, it doesn't show you the exp required from level 30 to 31 because you were never meant to go above 30. After hitting level 31, all level ups will display the required exp.

Hi, sorta new to this forum. I've known about the armageddon mod for quite some time just never tried it much. Recently got into it and according to the list of bosses on this website https://retroachievements.org/game/7943, I appear to have beaten everything in the game in version 9. Boss rush, monstro town guy, all the pokemon trainers, xion. Just curious if anybody knows if theres something i missed. Heres a quick picture!

Hey annh, welcome to the forums!  :coolguy:

First off, check with Frogfucius and see if there's any bosses you missed.  He only talks about Pokemon and FF bosses though, so I'll list the rest here:

Jinx
Boss in the new area in Mushroom Kingdom's castle
Boss at location west of Bean Valley
Bosses near the east exit of Mushroom Kingdom
Boss rush at Star Hill
Boss at location south of Ice Caves
Boss at Mario's Pad (beat the Anti Guys first)
Boss in Monstro Town behind sealed door
Boss at the very end of Palace of Shadow (in Bowser's Keep)

It looks like you've already fought most of these, but if you've missed any, these should be the rest!

Also, if you're still itching for more, you can always give Normal a try.  Be warned, the enemies are far stronger in Normal, and some late game items and bosses have been re-balanced.  Still, I hope you give it a try and have fun!

Appreciate the response! Yeah i'm pretty sure i've gotten all of those. Frogfucius is directing me only towards the boss rush at this point it seems as well. And uh, I thought I was playing normal? When I first downloaded the ips it said (normal) inside of it. I'm not sure if this is what actually happened why you made that assumption but i'm gonna take a guess at this...

A little bit before I found some of the 'two turns per turn' items I was trying to do some research and thought maybe content mode was some kind of mode where you get everything or something (like a cheat mode, i'm noob) lol. I now have 2 entirely separate folders titled 'snes' and 'snes2'. The snes2 is where I downloaded the content mod version and tried it in the other folder. Despite the emulators being in entirely separate directories upon returning to my 'normal' savefile (the folder titled 'snes') the color changed of the menu files. I'm pretty sure that my menu's were originally blue. And now its green lol. I could be wrong though again i'm noob :P

You're playing content mode without a doubt. Otherwise you wouldn't have the accessory of Mario or Bowser.

It's possible you originally grabbed the pre-release, which is somewhere between content mode and normal mode, being blue but calling itself content mode.

Hi , I’m sorry for the noob question I saw a video on YouTube for this and I was extremely interested to play it . Is it possible  to find a already patched rom ?

I unfortunately don’t have a computer and i play this stuff on my jailbroken iPhone. If anyone could help me find a version of the normal mode that’s patched please :(

Hi sorry I had another question I have the game up and running but now I am having a problem with save states . I was playing for a hour and the I made a save state and it then the game crashed . I then reloaded the game and it was back to pretty much the beginning. is there a way to fix it ?

While it does seem to be a problem with save states, it could also be because your emulator doesn't like Armageddon. Unless a version of Snes9X that is confirmed to work is being used, I'm not sure if the problem could be solved. Unless the former is true, and save states are just being nasty. Try not to use them.

No version earlier than v4.9 is currently out in the wild.

If you have Discord, you could try DMing Darkkefka asking if he's got it stored somewhere. If you don't have Discord, then I would suggest sending him a PM here on NGPlus.

If it's not included in the older versions, it likely no longer exists.  At the very least, there is no known copy of it.

In the downloads section.  The latest version is the default, but you can select any older version to download.

Just press on the chat icon next to forums on the top of the page, that'll take you to NGPlus' Discord server, from there DK can be found in the members list under the "modders" section.

Have you tried content mode?

So the Anti Guy in Booster Pass is invisible to me, is there anything I can do to fix this other than trying to repatch the game?

I saw somewhere that there was mentions of a version 9.1 with a hard mode planned, and was wondering if that has since been canned seeing as it has been over 3 years now. Can anyone confirm this?
