How short should we cut the pictures so they fit for avatars? I keep shrinking my image in image editing software, but the board keeps wanting me to cut it down even more.

170x170 pixels is the maximum size.

It should fit within the attached picture's canvas.

I made it that size, but then a secondary window pops up that wants me to crop it further. Don't really get what's going on.

Another caveat of avatars is that they need to be square. If you try to upload a rectangle it will force you to crop it into a square. Hope this helps!

Speaking of avatars, I think animated avatars are an abomination and should be automatically pruned to just one frame on upload. Nothing personal, guys with animated avatars.

Animated avatars are pretty hard to look away from. Kind of a good thing in my book tbqh.
